SEFTON-KOWAI
There was a very good attendance of members at the January meeting of the Sefton-Kowai Women’s Institute, Mrs A. Ashworth presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mrs Markholm. Some good designs for a banner were submitted and ft was decided to adopt the one submitted by Mrs Chambers. It was agreed to send a bell to the Sefton Institute, England, to be used at its meetings. The coriipetitions, which were judged .by Mesdames Fleming and Boyd, resulted as follows:—Best bloomr Mrs F. McGowan - 1. Mrs J. R. G. Matthews 2, . Mrs J. F. Douds 3. Queen cakes: Mrs A. Ashworth 1, Mrs C. D. Petrie 2. Miss Lewis 3. A talk was given by Mrs J. Fleming (Balcairn) bn preparing ; goods for the show. -The hostesses were Mesdames W. K. Wilson. F. Wilson, J. Maguire, and Anderson. *
LAKESIDE
_ln the absence of the president Mrs G. I/. Barnett presided over the monthly meeting of the Lakeside Women's Institute. A demonstration on the covering of; coat-hangers was given by Mrs Gi .Nairn. ' It was decided to co-operate with the -Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association in a carnival to be: held in April in aid of the association’s funds, and to send two delegates to a meeting at Leeston, Competition results were: Rasnherp jam: Mrs W. Lambie 1. Mrs Bar-: M/s J. Anderson 3; pikelets, Mrs G. Nairn 1. Mrs 'L. Cooper 2 Mrs Lambie 3; .flowers, Miss Breitmdyer 1, Mrs; Copper 2, Mrs Skilling“V humorous competition, Miss Sutton. Mesdames H. Schnelle and' Gi Nairn were the judges. Mrs R. Lambie was the pianist and the hostesses were Mesdames Chambers and Chamberlain and Misses Brextmeyer. Pi Chamberlain, and D, Chambers;

_ The January meeting of the Okain’s Bay Women’s Institute was held in the hall with Mrs J. Mason (vice-presi-dent) presiding. _ An animal competition was won by Mrs A. Skurr. Monthly competitions were won r follows:—Jar flowers, Mrs i Chalhes and Miss N. Moore (equal) 1, Mrs L. Spurr 3; laundered supper cloth; Mrs Challies 1, Mrs A. Ware 2.
