A . measure which will be expedited through Congress is that involving the construction of the oftmooted canal through Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The recept earthquakes in Central America, which af any time might threaten the Panama Canal, and. the recurrent landslides, have emphasised the necessity for an auxiliary which, would be 173 miles long, cost 722,000,00() dollars, and take 10 years to- build.
