SATURDAY (Before Mr E. C., Levvey, S.M.) FALSE PRETENCE

Arthur Edward Britt was charged with obtaining £4 13s from the employment division of the Labour Department by false pretence between November 16, 1935, and November 31, 1936. Chief-Detective W. H. Dunlop said that the accused had been on sustenance, and had failed to disclose to the department sums earned at race meetings by his wife, amounting to the sum named in the charge. Britt was ordered to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months, and to repay the sum of £4 13s as directed by the probation officer. REMANDED Frederick Kenneth.', Risdon (Mr N. S. A boy, aged 14, wascharged with being in possession of a firearm —an air rifle —while under 15 years of age. The police said that the boy had been practising in his backyard, firing at a target on a garage. A woman neighbour had complained that she had been gardening at the time and a pellet had passed near her.
