HEAD-OF-THE RIVER 'CONTEST ' AVON CLUB IN LEADING POSITION There - were - few ■ close finishes in the head-of-the-river rowing contest, which was continued on the Avon on .Saturday afternoon. It was apparent that some of the , crews' had .-.not regained their ; fitness after the holidays. - The Avon club .was the most successful on the day,;, securing six points to place it well in the.lead,with 10 points from the next club. Except for the youths’ and senior fours, all events were run off in heats. The fastest time of . the day was put up in the senior fours by the A Von crew, which completed. the mile course in Smln 53 3-ssec.
