HEAD-OF-THE RIVER 'CONTEST ' AVON CLUB IN LEADING POSITION There - were - few ■ close finishes in the head-of-the-river rowing contest, which was continued on the Avon on .Saturday afternoon. It was apparent that some of the , crews' had .-.not regained their ; fitness after the holidays. - The Avon club .was the most successful on the day,;, securing six points to place it well in the.lead,with 10 points from the next club. Union, which now' has six points. The events conducted on Saturday were youths’ fours light-weight maiden Tours, maiden fours, junior fours.’ and senior fours;. Except for the youths’ and senior fours, all events were run off in heats. The fastest time of . the day was put up in the senior fours by the A Von crew, which completed. the mile course in Smln 53 3-ssec.
