' SEAMEN'S INSTITUTE
An enjoyable whist drive, arranged by Mrs F. Mintey on behalf of the Christchurch Ladies' Guild, was held in the Seamen's Institute on Thursday evening; and was, attended, ,by .visiting leamen. ' Frizes given by the guild were afterwards presented, to the winsea and the men were entertained it supper.
Fire Brigade Meeting Superintendent R. Carson presided overthe annual meeting of the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade, there being a lull muster of members. The report stated that during the year the plant and equipment had been improved by the purchase by the borough council of an extension ladfojand by the conversion of part of te hoseifrom screw-coupling to intetsneous coupling. The borough council.had made provision in' the Btmiates forari extension of the alarm Wemto 10 street laoxes. It was wped that during the coming year ««present motor-truck would be reS»«i with a modern machine. . The following officers were elected: Mr R. Carson; de-w-superintendent. Mr G.
