DAIRY PRODUCE IN STORES

CROWN ASSUMES

OWNERSHIP

NOTICE GAZETTED

SHIPMENT BY PORT ALMA,

TARANAKI, AND TAINUI

(I'llKtiS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)

WELLINGTON, January 15,

A notice under section 18 of the primary Producers Marketing Act, 1936, determining that the ownership of dairy produce shall pass to the Crown before shipment, is gazetted. The acting-Minister for Marketing (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) declares that ownership shall pass to the Crown as from January 15, and that the said butter and cheese shall become the property of the Crown and discharged from right, title, or interest possessed in respect thereof by any other person. This notice refers to butter and cheese now in the Government grading stores at Auckland for shipment by the Taranaki. Port Alma, and Tainui.

A Press Association message from Auckland, printed in "The Press" yes-„ terday, reported that refrigerated produce was loaded on Thursday afternoon into the Federal steamer Cornwall, but no cargo arrived for the motor-ship Taranaki or for the Port Line steamer Port Alma. Both vessels sailed on Thursday evening, the Taranaki for Opua and the Port Alma for Waikokopu, to continue Homeward loading. They left behind a portion of the allotment of refrigerated produce which they were scheduled to lift at Auckland. The Tainui was to take in a small amount of general cargo in the absence of any refrigerated produce, and would remain at Auckland until Saturday, as originally scheduled, even if she lay idle, in the hope that the dispute would be settled before then. LONGBURN WORKS NOT AFFECTED (I'IUCSS ASSOCIATION TK.LEOKAM.) PALMERSTON N., January 15. Conditions at the Longburn freezing works arc not affected by the Auckland dispute, and work is proceeding normally.
