N.Z. LEGISLATION CRITICISED
- ' ECONOMIST’S COMMENT AT SCIENCE CONGRESS (PBI3S ASSOCIATION rCLEGKAV.') AUCKLAND, January 13, Criticism of two New Zealand pieces of legislation, the Primary Products Marketing Act and the Industrial Efficiency Act, was made to-day by Professor T. Hytten, economic adviser of the Bank of New. South Wales, at the Science Congress. • - Professor Hytten said that the object of the Primary Products Marketing Act was doubtless to provide against a fall in world; prices, arid if prices did fall it might be expensive to the Government. The problem with a pnce guaranteed by the Government was that was difficult to depress once conditions required a downward revision. Regarding the Efficiency Act Professor Hytteri said that--the advantage such as licensing the present manufacturer to the exclusion of new competition must be capitalised and would cause problems unless steps, were •taken to prevent inefficiency, which was hound to develop. :
