Mr and Mrs P. L. Porter (Cranmer square) will leave on Saturday for a holiday tour of Golden Bay, Nelson, and the West Coast. Mrs Guy Scott (Fendalton), who has been spending a holiday at the Rakaia fishing huts, returned home yesterday. Mrs Guy Pascoe (Oxford terrace) will leave on Saturday to spend a holiday at her cottage at Kowai Bush. Mrs H. S. E. Turner (Papanui road), who is spending a holiday at the Rakaia fishing huts, will return home on Sunday. Mrs Charles Cooper (Leinster road) left yesterday to pay her a short visit before her return. Mrs J. W. K. Lawrence (Fendalton) will leave to-day for the Rakaia fishing huts, accompanied by Miss C. Cardale, who will be her guest. Miss E. L. Sanderson (Cashmere) has returned from a visit to Okain’s Bay and Little River. Miss Patricia Powrie (Cashmere Hills) has returned from a visit to Miss Nance Blunden, Waikari. Miss Kathleen Greenslade (Dunedin), who has been visiting Mrs I. Macintyre, Cashmere Hills, will return home to-day. Miss Nina Davison (Fendalton), who has been spending a holiday of several months in Auckland, will return home by the Marama to-day. Mrs W. M. Tyers (Durham street north) and her sister, Miss E. Brabant (Auckland), have been visiting Mrs Eric Kenny, Eketahuna. Mrs D. S. Dodds (St. Andrew’s terrace) is visiting Auckland. Mrs George Ellwood, formerly of Wellington, who, during her 17 months’ stay in Sydney, has lived at Potts Point, will leave for Africa in about six weeks’ time to join her husband, the ’cellist, who left some time ago to fulfil engagements. After their African tour, Mr and Mrs Ellwood will return to England. Dr. and Mrs H. K. Allison and their two sons (Merivale lane) have returned home after a two weeks’ camping holiday spent in the Marlborough Sounds. Mrs E. Hartley and Miss Nancy Hartley (Knowles street) are spending a holiday at Akaroa. Mrs Percy Cox (Merivale), her sister, Miss Fox, and her daughter, Mrs Colin Marshall (Timaru), are visiting Lake Tekapo. Mr and Mrs Bernard Barker (Peterborough street) have returned from a holiday visit to Greymouth. Miss Robinson (Riccarton) is spending a holiday at Akaroa. Mr and Mrs Tisdall and family are spending a holiday at Akaroa, where, they have taken a furnished cottage. Mr and Mrs Webb (Christchurch) are quests at “The Glen,’’ Akaroa. Mrs J. Farrell, who has been very ill in Auckland, is now the guest of her mother, Mrs Ferris, Wellington. MiSses Heni and Alice Scott (Fendaltoh), who have been spending several weeks touring in the north, are at present visiting Auckland, Captain and Mrs Kenny and family and Mr and Mrs R, McGibbon (Christchurch) are visiting Akaroa and are guests at “The Glen.’’ Mr and Mrs Brown and Miss Norma Brown (Christchurch) have returned home after spending a holiday with Mrs H. Rhodes, Akaroa, Mrs H. W. Oliver (Akaroa) has left on a visit to the North Island. Miss Ruth Macfarlane, who has been living at Glen Colwyn, Parnassus, has now returned to “Haeremai,” Sumner. She will leave next j month for a trip to Britain. Miss Janet Hislop, of Avonside, has been awarded a Workers’ Educational Association bursary, entitling her to free tuition at Canterbury University College. Miss Hislop was selected from seven candidates, of whom two were men and five women, 55 essays being submitted by the candidates to the selection committee. Mr and Mrs K. J. Fulton and family (Fendalton), who have been spending a holiday at Akaroa, have returned home. Mrs G. S. (Sumner) spent the Christmas. holidays with her daughter, Mrs L. B. Kelly (Hawarden). Many friends in New Zealand, particularly in Marlborough, will learn with deep regret of the death in England of Mrs Marian Rowley, widow of Mr T. Rowley, and sister of Mrs Frank Dillon, of Leefield, Marlborough, and of Mrs Charles Teschemaker, Marlborough. Mrs Rowley arrived in New Zealand about 14 months ago and spent three months • visiting relatives and friends. She left in February last year on her return to England. At a card party held by the Halswell Hall Committee, prizes were won by Mesdames E. Lunt and J. Savage,’Messrs J. McDrury, and.H. Hayes. The aggregate prizes for the four nights were won by Mrs F< R. Wilhelm and Mr E. Ireland. :Mr Wilhelm was master of ceremonies for the evening. A card party and dance were held by the members of the Halswell.Hall Committee to augment the ’ hall funds. Competitions at cards were won by Mrs Etterick and Mrs- Tipler, Messrs W. Wilson and J. Burke. In the dance hall, a lucky spot waltz wr« won by Miss N. McNamara and Mr Partridge, and a lucky spot Boston by Mr and Mrs A. Payne, a waltz by Miss Brown and Mr Pyke, and a New Year one-step by Miss Brown and Mr Copley. Music for the dance was supplied by Alex. Campbell’s band, and extras were played by Mrs Etterick. Mr F. R. Wilhelm was master of ceremonies.
