OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.) WELLINGTON, January 13. The Dominion Observatory’s weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlbiprough issued at 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate easterly to southerly winds, freshening. Weather cloudy to overcast, with showers or misty rain at times.’ Seas: a considerable swell. The following is the Dominion forecast:^ — .. Weather mainly fair to fine, in western districts of the South Island; elsewhere cloudy to overcast, with showers or misty rain at times, especially in eastern » areas. More general rain developing shortly in the northern portion of the North Island, with some heavy falls in the Auckland province. An anti-cyclone covers the South Tasman Sea, and extends on to the Dominion; but it is apparently losing intensity, and an extensive cyclonic depression is now centred west of Norfolk Island and is moving south-eastwards. Winds—Light to moderate and variable winds at first. North-easterlies soon setting in, however, in the far north, and becoming strong and of gale force in places elsewhere. Winds between easterly and south-easterly prevailing, and later freshening generally from Cook Strait northwards. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Considerable swell south of East Cape; elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising north of East Cape. Eastern Tasman— Increasing north-east to easterly winds in the northern portion, with rising seas; moderate south-easterly to southerly winds in the southern portion, with moderate seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER After a few showers of rain during yesterday morning the day was cool and overcast, and the maximum temperature did not reach 60 degrees. There was very little wind during the day, and the evening was cold and overcast. At 1 o’clock this morning tbe weather was cloudy and calm. The temperature was 50 degrees. IN OTHER PLACES Auckland —The weather yesterday was overcast and warm. There was a light south-easterly wind, with light rain, about noon. The sky cleared somewhat in the afternoon, but was still cloudy, the barometer slowly falling from 29.80 inches at 5 p.m. Wellington—The weather yesterday was dull and cool, with some light rain in the latter part of the morning. A light south-easterly wind blew. The minimum temperature during Tuesday night was 48.3 degrees; the maximum yesterday was 59.4 degrees. Dunedin—The weather yesterday was mild, with a slight breeze from the south-west. Rain threatened about midday, but the sky cleared toward evening.
