FINAL WHEAT PAYMENT

£120,000 To Be Distributed FURTHER 4JU A BUSHEL RETURN FROM 1936 CROP / A final payment of 4.id a bushel will be made by the Wheat Committee on the 1936 crop. The payment, which will be made after the audit of the accounts towards the end of next month, will total about £120,000, the committee having handled this season a little less than -6,800,000 bushels of milling wheat, compared with 5,000,000 in the 1935 crop year. The final payment will bring the return on the 1936 crop up to 4s 9fd a bushel on a Tuscan March basis. The prices for the last four years are shown in the following table:— A Bushel , Year. s. d. 1936 ~ .. 4 9i 1935 .. .. 4 7i 1934 .. ..45 1933 .. .. 3 10 The price for the 1936 crop is actually higher above the price for the previous year than the figures suggest, because the final payment of 7-id on the 1935 crop was made possible in part by • the carry-over from the previous year sold during 1935. The average of the three seasons, 1933 to 1935, was a little more than 4s 3d. Although a number of lines of the new Marlborough crop have already . been received, there is so far no in- ' dication of what the price for the I 1937 crop will be. The . Wheat Coml mittee met in Christchurch yesterday > and the day before, but the question of price was. not discussed. Before the Wheat Committee can give the matter | attention, the Government must come to some decision. The greater part of the amount > will be distributed in Canterbury.
