CHILLD KILLED

STRUCK BY RAILWAY TRUCK PLAYING IN STATION YARD A six-year-old child was struck by a railway truck and killed at Tormore railway station not long after midday yesterday. The child was Gerald Trowbridge, a son of Mr S. D. Trowbridge, a railway employee, of Tormore, which is a flag station on the Cheviot branch line. Sheep were being trucked at Tormore yesterday by men from Stonyhurst station. During the work one of the trucks was released and moved along the.line to where several children were playing in the station yard. The other children saw it coming and got clear in time, but Trowbridge was struck by it, and killed instantly. Dr. L. H. Marshall, of Cheviot, was called, but could do no more than certify to the death. The child was very badly injured about the head. HEAD INJURIES SUFFERED William E. Clark, a young man, suffered head injuries about 4.30 last evening, when he was thrown from his motor-cycle in Tuam street. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where his condition last evening was reported not to be serious. GIRL'S BODY IN CREEK (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, January 12. After a three days' search by residents and the police, the dead body of Lois Dobbs, aged 17, the adopted daughter of Mr and Mrs Dobbs, of Ramarama, was found this afternoon by a member of the search party in a small pool which formed part of a creek about three-quarters of a mile away from her home. The body had apparently been in the water for two days. She was dressed.in shorts and a blouse and was wearing gumboots. Lois Dobbs left her home at Ramarama about 3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, and had not since been seen.
