OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.! WELLINGTON, January 12. The Dominion Observatory's weather forecast tor Canterbury and Marlborough issued at 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to fresh southerly winds. A few isolated coastal showers probable, but weather mainly fair to fine, with cool temperatures. Seas: a considerable but decreasing southerly swell. The following is the Dominion forecast: — Weather for the most part fair to fine. A few isolated showers probable, especially in coastal areas. Temperatures cool to moderate. Recent depression is passing away eastwards. A moderate anti-cyclone is approaching from the TasjDtan. and a cyclone is at present located off the South Queensland coast.
Winds —South-westerly to southerly prevailing; strong at first on parts of the east coast, but decreasing; otherwise light to moderate, later tending easterly in the iar north.
Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough in the South Taranaki bight and parts of the east coast south of Castlepoint, but decreasing; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman—Light to moderate southerlies, veering later to easterlies in the northern portion. Seas slight to moderate. .
CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER
The weather in Christchurch yesterday was warm and sunny. The morning was calm, but there was a fresh south-westerly breeze later in the day. Ra J . fell in the early hours of the morning, but there was none during the day. The maximum temperature was 63.7 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the weather was cloudy and calm. The temperature was 51 degrees. The barometer, rising slowly, registered 29.85 in. Auckland—Yesterday the weather was fine and sunny. The sky was threatening early in the morning, and there was a light fall of rain; but the weather soon cleared, and temperatures were warm. There was a fresh west to south-westerly wind. During the day the barometer fell slightly from 29.85 to 29.75.
Wellington—The weather was fine and sunny yesterday, with a light southerly breeze until 2.30 p.m., when there was a change to north-west. The minimum temperature during Monday night was 49.8 degrees; the maximum yesterday was 64.9 degrees. Dunedin —Sunshine, broken by rain marked the weather yesterday. There was a fresh breeze from the south-west, and the maximum temperature was 64 degrees. The barometer rose to 29.65 in. OFFICIAL REPORTS
