LINCOLN COLLEGE GRANT
PROPOSED UTILISATION At yesterday’s meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College, the director (Professor E. R. Hudson) stated that while in Wellington last month he interviewed the secretary to the Minister for Agriculture and the Director-General of Agriculture oh the matter of the proposed grant of £3OOO to carry out urgent work at Lincoln College, Apparently no progress had been made with the matter since the visit of the Minister, and he was requested to forward particulars of the utilisation of the grant. Particulars had been forwarded immediately on his return, but no communication had yet been received. Particulars of the proposed utilisation of the grant included improved cookers and water heaters, and installation, £60,0; purchase of horses £SOO. new tractor (less allowance on old) £250, implements £l5O, fencing, grubbing of old gorse, levelling, and five miles of fencing £540, painting and urgent repairs to buildings £3OO, establishment of 300 acres of permanent subterranean clover at '■ Ashley Dene £225. and repairs to the roof and guttering of the main building, and renovation of students’ annex' aild domestic quarters £365.
Scottish Shorthorn breeders have I formed a new association for the furtherance of the interests of the breed in Scotland, and especially for pushing the interests of what is generally known as the "Scotch" type. It is in no way antagonistic to the Shorthorn Society, but has been started with its blessing. The new association combines the functions of previous sectional bodies in the north, and is in effect a marketing scheme, although outside the Agricultural Marketing. Act.
