A welcome was extended by the Board to Dr. Hilgendorf, who had been appointed by the Governor-Gen-eral to fill the position vacated by Dr. Hight. On the motion of Messrs Banks and Buddo, the retiring chairman, Mr Rennie, was re-appointed to the position for the ensuing 12 months. Director's Report The report of the director covered the farm work for the month, which had been interfered with by the broken weather. Part of the hay crop had been badly damaged by rain. The farm overseer reported that drains' and fences in the lower part of the farm were in a deplorable condition. Cattle could wander almost at will. Fences required cutting, and in most cases re-
newing entirely. Drains had not been cleaned for many years, allowing paddocks to become waterlogged and sour. A considerable amount of labour was required to attend.to these things. Several extra .day men had been engaged to assist with the harvest and other necessary work. With the amount of work in hand, the tractor would have to be kept going continuously. To date 15 diploma students had signified their intention to enter the college this year. The Old Students' Scholarship had been awarded to J. W. T. Anstey, of Hunter, Waimate, on the recommendation of the Federation of Your.g Farmers' Clubs. The South Canterbury Farmers' IJhion had offered to pay half the fees of one of the run-ners-up for the scholarship and the New Zealand Refrigerating Co., had offered similar assistance to the other runner-up. The New Zealand Refrigerating Co.'s full scholarship had been awarded to H. A. Duff, of Moa Flat. Otago, and the company had made a further offer to extend both its scholarships for a second year on the receipt of favourable reports at the end of their first year on the work of the two scholars.
The report referred to donations of Ccrriedale ewes from Messrs B. Sidey and Sons, and O. T. Evans to strengthen the Corriedale flock. It was stated that both these breeders would give the college shepherd the right to select the type of ram he wanted from a collection of 40. On the motion of Mr Buddo is was resolved to thank the donors of scholarships and stock, including those notified at the preceding meeting, for the very practical assistance given to the college. The report was adopted. Committees Finance: Dr. Denham was appointed to the Finance Committee, which comprises the chairman. Dr. Denham. Messrs Lyons, Wright, Johns, and Buddo.
