MURDER SUSPECTED AT PEIPING ADOPTED DAUGHTER OF DUNEDIN MAN (Received January 11, 12.15 a.m.) PEIPING, January 9. A famous Chinese detective. Inspector Han, is hunting the murderer of Pamela Werner, aged 17, the adopted daughter of Mr Edward Werner, of Dunedin. Her body was found outside the city wall. It was mutilated and murder is suspected. Practically every man in the British and other foreign communities is assisting Inspector Han, whb at present is following up a clue that the girl was friendly with a Chinese student. , ' . ■', The body lay in the open all night because the road skirting the ditch where it was found is shunned by rickshaw men because of the belief that it is haunted. Mr Werner, giving evidence at the inquest torday, said he walked along the haunted road late on Thursday night searching for his daughter artd must have passed within a few feet of the body. .
