SITUATION IN EUROPE

AMERICAN STATESMAN HOPEFUL WAR NOT CONSIDERED IMMINENT (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPXitIOHT.) (Received January 11, 12.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, January 10. The Acting-Secretary of State, Mr Moore, in a statement based on official dispatches* said: "I do not think that reports from Europe should cause undue alarm. "I decline to believe that war involving the leading European nations is about to occur. I decline to believe that any such suicidal adventure is imminent. I am convinced, on the contrary, that the leaders, knowing what a fatal blow another extensive war might be to the fabric of European civilisation, will 'find some cdmmdn-sertsp method of adjusting all controversies."
