.- ♦" •■ ' HOPES FOR SETTLEMENT (Received January 11, 1.30 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, January 10. What is described as "settlement psychologj'" prevailed among those concerned in the shipping strike today. Mr H. j Bridges, the union leader, said: "Negotiations have been progressing favourably during the week. If the present progress continues the strike may be over in a fortnight." Senator Steinwer has. sent a telegram to President Roosevelt asking for his intervention. SEAMEN'S PROTEST ' MARCH TO WASHINGTON THREATENED (Received January 11, 1.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, January 10. The striking seamen have threatened to march 1000 strong to Washington to protest against the Federal regulations concerning re-employ-ment.
