BOTANIC GARDENS
TO THE EDITOR OF THE FBESS. Sir, —I am visiting my home city after an absence of a number of years. I have found a marked advancement all round, much to the credit of Christchurch. To mention all improvements would take too much time and space. '•_ I should, however, like to make special mention of the Botanic Gardens. I was amazed at the improvements, layout, and general appearance. The lily ponds are beautiful, my only regret being that I did not see them in their full glory. • I was struck with the wonderful variety of new shrubs and the glorious showing of flowers, many quite new to me. The curator evidently devotes a great deal of his time to the study of and raising of new seedlings of choice variety for his grounds. They are a Teat credit to him, and must be a constant pleasure to the people of Christchurch. I wonder if they realise the asset they have. In conclusion, I extend my congratulations to the curator, 'and trust he will continue to improve the gardens in the future, as he has in the past.—Yours, etc.. VISITING OLD BOY. January 8, 1937.
