SWIMMING The Lyttelton Men's Amateur Swimming Club held events at Corsair Bay on Saturday afternoon. Results were:— 33 Yards Handicap—l. Dromgoole (4sec) 1, A. Gosney (scr) 2, G. Hillier (ssec) 3. Eight started. Dive—B. Reardon (scr) 1, L. Coombes (4 points) 2, R. Kiddey (4 points) 3. Seven competed. Sailing A tricky wind from the north-west to northerly baffled yachtsmen at Lyttelton at times on Saturday afternoon, when the Canterbury Yacht and Motor-boat Club held club races. The wind, however, was light, and the sea fairly smooth. Results were:— ■ ■ A Class (started 2.45 p.m.)—Marangi (R. Boulton), 4min, 4.4.23 p.m., 1; Pastime (A. Miller), scr, 4.22, 2; Bona (C. E. Hendry), smin, 3.50.26. 3. Six boats started. Boat Capsized During the north-westerly gale yesterday afternoon ' the 14-foot sailing boat Huia was capsized in the harbour off Corsair Bay. The hot.weather yesterday attracted a large crowd to Corsair Bay and the water was'thronged with bathers all day. At one time in the afternoon 109 cars and motor-cycles were counted parked at the bay, and motor vehicles were arriving and leaving - almost continuously, j Diamond Harbour was also well patronised by picnickers and bathers yesterday,, most of them crossing from Lyttelton by passenger launches.
