A RETURN MATCH POSSIBLE
PERRY AND VINES IN NEW YORK AGAIN BOTH PLAYERS SUFFERED FROM NERVOUSNESS (Received January 8, 9.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 7. The promoters of the Perry-Vines match have announced that they are planning a return match here if a suitable date is available at Madison Square Garden. Both players are said to favour the proposal, and another huge crowd is expected. - Sports writers have been expressing conflicting views on whether Vines was at his best,,since it is reported that he was suffering from nervous indigestion and a cold. It is stated that Perry was, suffering from the same maladies, -but several writers insist that Vines was most affected, and had a fever of 102 degrees after the match. Vines, in an interview, saiid: “I am anxious to meet Perry again at New York; I am not offering any alibi. He is a wonderful player, but I feel I can make a better showing. I would like to do it here rather than elsewhere. I was very nervous during the match, but Perry did not seem to have any nerves.” Perry, in an interview, said: ‘T want to express appreciation .of the way the, crowd treated me. I was very nervous before the match, but the ceremony of the band playing ‘God Save the King,’ and the raising of the British flag did something to me which changed my attitude. This -was a big factor in my victory. I expect Vines to win his share of our matches on tour.”
