. ♦ MR ROOSEVELT’S PROMISE (Received January 8, 8.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 7. Mr Roosevelt gave his first direct assurance that no individual-in need of relief would be dropped from Works Progress Administration pools, and that any such who had already been eliminated would be reinstated, in a letter to members of Congress who protested against the reductions in the number employed. The statement is expected to curb the sit-down strikes which have affected several of the administraprojects. ,
