CRUISE OF SOUTH ISLAND
MAUNGANUI MAY NOT BE ABLE TO VISIT DUNEDIN Possible interference by • the health regulations with the cruise of the South Island by the Mauhganui this month is at present under consideration, according to Mr A. R. Thompson, Christchurch manager of the Union Steam Ship Company. On her first trip the Maunganui spent a day at Dunedin, but this was before the regulations were introduced preventing travellers from leaving Dunedin without a permit. If the Maunganui had to cancel the visit to Dunedin, Mr Thompson said, it was probable that she would spend an extra day at Stewart Island or the southern sounds, so that she would still arrive at Lyttelton on January 24; The position involves the possibility that even if the passengers were able to secure permits to leave Dunedin after paying a visit the authorities in Australia would consider it necessary to impose quarantine restrictions on the vessel on her return.
