“DON’T LAUGH AT MY PETS,” SAYS TOM
Many people tease me about my hens, for they all have names, and are very tame. But what do.'l care? I just say, “You are- just ’ jealous because your hens aren't quiet enough to be handled.” 'Why! Just the other day, Grubby, the hen, said to Whitetail, "Ha! ha! my master and. owner has picked me up and stroked my feathers six times now, and he has only picked ydu up twice,” she cackled with joy. “Hec! hee!” Whitetail sniggered. “That’s because you’re his pet, pig.” “I’m not!” shouted Grubby, quite angry; “You are,” said Whitetail.
This continued for about 10 minutes, then all the hens and roosters began to fight,, cackle, and squabble about who was my pet. And I can truthfully say that it wasn’t until I had picked them all lip and stroked them that they began to quieten' down and go to bed on the perch. —TOM FENWICK. Horrelville,
