PREVENTION OF CRIME
TO ran EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—deferring to the information asked for by your correspondent “E.M.” in to-day’s issue of “The Press,” as to the recommendation made by the Royal Commission on Prisons of 1868, about after-care, I am personally of the opinion that it is hot a good, thing for the very people it is intended to benefit that it should be broadcast; but greater notice of its applicability could be taken by the Chief Probation Ofix-
cer in Wellington and the local probation officers in the various districts. I suggest to your correspondent that the Howard League is almost sure to have this information on its files, and no doubt it could be obtained from the league. Probably he will then agree with my reasons.—Yours, etc., - PENAL PROGRESS. January 6, 1937.
