COTTON CARPETS
TO THE EDITOR Or THE PRESS. Sir, —Until last week 1 had the fixed idea that wool rugs and carpets would be outside the sphere of competition by vegetable fibres, but during my visit to Christchurch last week I noticed some exceedingly cheap carpets showing in a window. I ■ went in to inspect and found to my surprise they .were made of cotton, but I saw no indication on tag that such was the case.. So I feel prompted to write-and warn prospective buyers of the danger arising out of the use of this class of goods. Everyone should be conversant with the fact that vegetable fibres are very inflammable (in direct contrast to wool), and cotton, as one of the worst of these, is therefore a very dangerous floor covering, to mention the worst of its faults. It will also have no life or springiness in the. pile (again in direct contrast to the wool rug or carpet) and will flatten. I need but say that my main reason for writing is that I am interested in the wool trade and think, in all fairness, people should know what they are buying.—Yours, etc., WOOLLY. . Ashburton.
