EARLY MORNING FIRE
SPECTACULAR BLAZE OUTBREAK IN PAINT-SHOR FLAMES QUICKLY CONTROLLED. BY BRIGADE - Fire, which blazed spectacularly for about a quarter of an hour, gutted the first floor bC a paint-shop' in Armagh street, occupied by George Scy and Sons, about 12.30 I his morning. The flames had a good hold when the brigade arrived dnd were scooting through the roof to a great height. ' The building, two storeys high, of brick, stands some distance from Armagh street in a right-of-way between Colombo street and Regent street, and at first it seemed from the size of the flames that the whole centre of the block was ablaze. On the ground floor very little damage was done, the fire merely eating its way through the ceiling before it was stopped but the two upper rooms were badly damaged. The fire apparently started in a desk near the head of the stairway and from there spread to another room used as an office. There were only two desks and a number of odds and ends in the main room. The outbreak was under control about a quarter of an hour after the arrival of the engines. The alarm was given by Constable J. Gilmore. No insurances 'were available this morning.
