PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON (TBOU 008 OWI COBMSPOMDMT.) LONDON, December 12. The annual reunion dinner of the London branch of the King's College Old Boys' Association was held at Gennaro's Restaurant on December 8. Lieu-tenant-Colonel T. P. Bassett was in the chair and Mr W. S. Smith proposed the toast of "The School." Those present included Dr. Graeme Talbot, Messrs W. R. Chisholm, T. Wyatt Dickeson. R. Dodd, Shayle Gardner, R. G. Gillett, S. S. Handyside, J. D. Lewis, Thomas N. Maxwell, J. Wallace Potts, L. T. J. Pycroft, and S. D. K. Stride. At a meeting of the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons, held on December 10. Diplomas of Fellowship were granted to the following New Zealanders: D. W. Ashcroft, M.B. (New Zealand). Otago; A. S. Gray, M.B. (New Zealand), Otago and Guy's; F. R. Leonard. M.B. (New Zealand), Otago; K. I. Nissen, M.B. (New Zealand), Otago and Guy's; D. P. O'Brien, M.B. (New Zealand). Otago and St Bartholomew's; J. A. Stallworthy, M.B. (New Zealand), St. Bartholomew's. Mr John F. Holm (Wellington) arrived in London on December 3, and will leave for Edinburgh a few days

before Christmas to join the new intercolonial cargo vessel. Port Tauranga. He will go out in her as chief officer for the voyage to New Zealand. It is expected that the Port Tauranga will be ready to leave on her maiden voyage early in the new year. Mr W. J. Jordan left London on December 9 for Geneva, where he is to attend a meeting of the League of Nations Council to consider the situation in Spain. Later he will sit as a member of the League Committee which has been appointed to discuss the reform of the Covenant. He is not expected back until about Christmas. Mr W. Nash. New Zealand Minister for Finance and Marketing, continues to have his time fully occupied. On December 7 he was the guest of honour at a luncheon given by the British Empire League. His engagements include an address before the Royal Empire Society on "New Zealand and the Commonwealth." and attendance at a dinner at which Sir Abe Bailey is to be made a presentation by the "Round Table." On December 14 he will be present, with Mrs Nash, at a reception given by the New Zealand Group of the Overseas League. On the same evening he will attend the dinner of the Empire Migration Settlements Group. On December 17 he is to be entertained at luncheon by the board of "The Times." He will be present at the New Zealand Society's smoke concert at night. Next day he is to inspect the works of the General Electric Company at Wembley, and in the evening he will be present at the Royal Empire Society's annual ball. In addition to these official engagements, Mr Nash is continually receiving callers, and is continuing the negotiations which are the purpose of his visit to England. Mr Nash has already explained New Zealand's point of view to several deputations, and is awaiting their answer.

Mr C. Smith, the well-known New Zealand Rugby player, who has been playing for the Streatham Mitcham Rugby League team for some time, has signed on with the Halifax Rugby League Club. Mr J. Stanton (Auckland) is leaving by the Napier Star on December 11. He came to England on Privy Council business and he was present when an appeal was argued before the Judicial Committee.

Since their arrival in England at the end of June, Dr. and Mrs H. D. Broadhead (Christchurch) have travelled extensively in Great Britain. This tour was followed by six weeks in London after which they settled at Cambridge for two months. They will leave this week for Naples and Greece, and expect to be in Christchurch again by the middle of February.
