CLAY BIRD SHOOTING
—» ELLESMERE GUN CLUB THREE NINE-BIRD MATCHES FIRED Notwithstanding the wet weather on Monday. 45 competitors took part in the Ellesmere Gun Club's shoot, held on the club's ground at Leeston. Among the number were members of the Christchurch. Methven, and North Canterbury Clubs. Prizes of a total value of more than £35 were given for three matches of nine clay birds each, and a system of handicapping was followed which resulted in the prizes being distributed among as many competitors as possible. Shooting conditions were not good except for a short period when the weather cleared. The visiting shooters were hospitably entertained by the Ellesmere Club Results:— NO. 1 MATCH < In ihe first match the principal scorers
A shoot-ofT resulted in the prizes being won as follows:—L. Anderson 1, A. Prestney 2, G. M. Doyle 3, S. H. Anderson 4, T. S Harrison 5, A. McLeod 6, J. F. Parkin 7, H. T. Stephens 8, J. T. Corbitt 9. The following with eight on secured the remaining prizes:—J. McHugh 10. E. F. Ward 11, R. L. Donald 12, G. Bruere 13. T. Gordon 14. W. J. Patterson 15. NO. 2 MATCH The all-ons in the No. 2 match were:— T. S. Harrison .. 111111211 9 E. F. Ward .. 212112111 9 Harrison took first prize and Ward second. Those with eight on received prizes as follows:—A. Greenwood 3, A. Thian 4. A E. Wilson 5, I. Mawson 6, S. H. Anderson 7, A. Turner 8, L. C. Anderson 9. L. C. Lemon to,' W. J. Winchester 11. F. Brlghtling 12, T. Gordon 13, L. W. Prosser 14, F. L. Graham 15, T. Corbitt 16. Prizes were also gained by H. T. Stephens and D. L. McGregor, each with seven breaks. NO. 3 MATCH In this event possibles were gained; by. L. W. Prossei .. 111122121 9 A. Greenwood .. 111111121 9 A shoot-off resulted in Greenwood gaining first prize and Prosser second. Other competitors with one off took the following prizes:—E. A. Washbourne 3, E. F. Ward 4, J. T. Corbitt 5, S. H. Anderson 6, A. Prestney 7, R. Jones 8, W. Anderson 9, W. L. Donald 10, G, M. Doyle 11, L. C. Anderson 12, D. L. McGregor 13, M. Holland 14, J. F. Parkin 15, A. S. Thian 116. Shooters with seven breaks who secured prizes were:—D. Harrison 17. F. W. [Brightling 18, D. Dorreen 19. S. H. Anderson won a prize lor the best aggregate, and L. Cj Anderson a prize for the best first barrel performance. Two other competitions were won bv R. S. Taylor and R. Lochhead.
