OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, December 28. The Dominion Observatory's weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly winds. Weather cloudy to overcast, and, In places, misty or foggy, with drizzling rain at times, but improving slowly, especially inland. Temperatures cooL Seas rough north of Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate to rather rough. The following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair to fine in South Westland and the far south; elsewhere cloudy to overcast, and in i places misty or foggy, with intermittent rain; improving by to-moc- | row, especially in western districts. Temperatures becoming cool. A trough of low pressure lies in a | north-west to south-east direction across the central portion of the Dominion, while an anti-cyclone of moderate intensity is advancing across the south Tasman Sea, i Winds—Moderate to strong northerlies at first about and north of Cook Strait; moderate to fresh southerlies or south-easterlies, thence southwards, and extending over the whole Dominion by morning. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough in the Cook Strait area; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising somewhat south of Castlepoint. Eastern Tasman—Moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly winds, and moderate to rather rough seas; conditions moderating to-morrow. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Rain fell throughout the day in Christchurch yesterday, with a light wind lrom the south-west. The rain continued late into the night and the sky then showed no sign of clearing. At 1 o'clock this morning the weather was cloudy, with a southwest wind. The temperature was 50 degrees. The barometer, rising, registered 30.05 inches. IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—The weather yesterday was line and warm. There was a fresh northerly wind. The sky was clear in the morning; but it became overcast in the afternoon, and rain fell in the evening. The barometer was fairly steady at 30.00 inches. Wellington—The weather yesterday was dull, thick, and misty, with almost continuous rain, which was at times heavy. A strong northerly wind blew until shortly before noon, a number of gusts at Kelburn exceeding 50 miles an hour. The minimum temperature on Sunday night was 57.1 degrees; the maximum yesterday was 62.0 degrees.

Dunedin.—The weather was cold and showery, a light south-east wind being accompanied by a heavy drizzle and a low-lying mist throughout the greater part of the day. The maximum temperature was 58 degrees, and the barometer was steady at 30.05 inches.
