JAPANESE RELATIONS WITH EMPIRE
♦ I EFFECT OF AUSTRALIAN SETTLEMENT TOKYO, December 27. The Foreign Office has published a statement, in which it says that the present measures provided for in the trade agreement between Japan and Australia, which will become effective on January 1, are of an emergency nature to restore trade relations promptly, and a full agreement must await future negotiations. The bonds of friendship between Japan and Australia will be drawn closer by the successful conclusion of the negotiations, which also will favourably affect the general trade relations of Japan with the British Empire. AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES JAI'AN EXPECTED TO BUY (Received December 29, 12.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 28. A marked revival in trade between Australia and Japan, particularly in wool and textiles, is expected from the settlement of the trade dispute. Japan is expected to participate when the wool sales resume at Melbourne and Sydney next Monday.
