He and Chrysology disputed the lead throughout, and he was first to the last fence from Chrysology, with a gap to Silver Jest and Look Smart. Blazon carried on to win comfortably from Silver Jest, who outstayed Chrysology. Octane" was a poor fourth, a head in front of Look Smart. . „ „ A Smart Galloper The Novice Handicap resulted in a convincing win for the Oamarutrained Petersham, who was always handy to the leaders. Radio Star was first out, and piloted the field to the straight entrance, where Petersham rushed past her, and was not troubled in the run home. Radio Star held on to her second placing well clear I of Natty, with a big gap to Restrain. iCorban, Trumpet Blast, and Trebleack.

The Favourite Fails Top Row monopolised the pool for the Juvenile Handicap, but getting away slowly was well beaten into second place by Peony Rose, who took charge early, and led round the home: turn and into the straight from Gusto, Top Row, and Stromboli. Peony Rose went right away as soon as the business stages were reached, and although Top Row made up some leeway, it did not trouble the leader. Stromboli was a good third, half a length in front of Silver Bond, with Auctor next. Heidelberg whipped round at the start, and was hopelessly left. A Close Call Gold Boa paid one of the smallest prices for the meeting to win the Grandstand Handicap. She took charge at the end of a furlong, and led into the straight well clear of Silver Streak, Bon Tray, and Song Boy, with Half Note finishing wide out. The last-named made a determined effort on the outside, and overhauling Gold Boa at every stride, failed only by a neck to get up. Lochlaggan was a fair third, half a length in front of Silver Sail, with Bon Tray last. A Solid Performance Davolo, the favourite for the St. Andrew's Handicap, had to put up a sterling performance to gain honours. He was slow away and had only Guarantee and Polydora behind him half a mile from home. He then crept up on the leaders and was in close attendance on Travenna, Wild Career, and Great Star entering the straight. Travenna looked a likely winner after passing the distance, but Davolo gradually wore him down and beat him home comfortably. Wild Career weakened into a moderate third placing, a length in front of Great Star, with Polydora and Amy Johnson close up next and The Surgeon last. Another Impressive Success The first day's winner Barley Almond outclassed a strong field of hacks in the Fernhill Handicap, the number including Stolen March, who was badly placed on the fence over the first furlong and was squeezed back to last place with half the journey covered. Ilithyia was the early leader from Barley Almond, Gambler's Luck, and Vantoon. Barley Almond shot to the front as soon as heads were turned for home, and recorded a very easy win from Mutus, who was last away, and came from well back in the straight. Stolen March finished well to gain third money, with a gap to Great Empire and Superex. Gambler's Luck fell at the straight entrance. Another Double Winner Gaysome, the public choice for the Allanton Handicap, had every chance, but failed to finish on as well as previously, after being close up in fourth place from Surge, Poniard, and Silver Lark entering the straight. The lastnamed was in front at the distance, where McHeath challenged and after a brief struggle worked his way to the front to win decisively, Silver Lark hanging on to beat Gaysome by a neck. Last Link was two lengths back in-front of Silk Paper and Poniard. A Close Tussle The finish of the Farewell Handicap was the closest of the meeting, three horses passing the post almost in line. Convivial was the early leader, but ' soon gave way to Bay Biddy, who led jdown the back stretch from Fireguard. Convivial, Rousseau, Rebel Lad, and High Glee. Bay Biddy was still in charge entering the straight, but quickly retired, and High Glee, Rebel Lad Convivial, and Rousseau were bunched. The last-named finished solidly on the outside and gained a half-head verdict from High Glee, who was a similar distance in front of Rebel Lad. Fireguard was more than two lengths away, with Convivial, who was squeezed back nearing the post, next.
