COLLEEN’S THIRD WIN FINAL RACE SAILED Winning the fourth race in the Sanders v ■> trials at Lyttelton on Saturday, Collee. secured her third win and brought the trials to a conclusion. After losing Imin 45sec at the start through being over the line when the gun was lired, and having to recross, Tissiman, skipper of Colleen, sailed a wonderful race, overtaking the others one by one In the first round, and. taking the lead soon after the start of the second round, won by Imin 40sec from Jean. Jean made easily the best showing she has done during the trials, leading for the first round and always being within striking distance of Colleen until the finish. Marietta did not start. The Start The course was triangular, and the race was sailed in a light to fresh north-easter-ly, which became a little uncertain towards the finish. In jockeying for the inside position at the starting buoy, Colleen was caught over the line and was ordered back, starting well astern of the others. A lulling match between Elfin and Manihi resulted in the latter being forced to take her spinnaker in. At the quarry buoy the order was Jean, Avenger, Elfin, Manihi, and Colleen. Colleen was already gaining on the others. All went on a long board to starboard across the harbour. Avenger and Manihi were about first. Colleen weathered Avenger and Manihi, but had Jean still to weather of her. About again. Avenger weathered Elfin and was in turn weathered by Manihi. Jean and Colleen continued to Increase their lead over tire others. At the Sticking Point buoy Colleen was 56 seconds behind Jean. On the run, Colleen picked up on Jean, coming right up and taking her wind. Colleen had trouble with hers, and after a little delay took it in. The others also tried to set spinnakers, but were not very successful. Colleen kept further up into the wind until she neared the buoy, when Tissiman slacked away, and. running down on the mark, rounded 12 seconds ahead of Jean. Manihi had been carried well to leeward. The course followed in the beat dosvn the harbour was much the same as in the .first round. On rounding, Colleen and Jean worked short boards up the Diamond Harbour shore, working out Into mid-harbour when off Diamond Harbour point. The beat this time was slow, the wind was shifting, and the boats had some trouble in fetching the mark. This caused Colleen to lose some of her lead. Dobby, jun.) 5. 5.45 COLLEEN SELECTED At a meeting of the Sanders Cup committee of the Canterbury Yacht and Power-Boat Association at Lyttelton last evening Colleen was selected to defend the cup for Canterbury at the contest to be held at Lyttelton in February. W. Tissiman was selected as skipper, and he will have with him his present crew; K. Sillars (spinnaker hand), G. Harris, and W. Hcmslcy.
