AUSTRALIAN AIR RACE
FIRST STAGE COMPLETED
(Received December 16, 11.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 16.' The first stage of the South Australian centenary air race from Brisbane to Adelaide was completed to-day without mishap in excellent flying conditions. Thirty machines competed, five of the entrants being women—Mrs H. B. Bonney and Misses May Bradford, Freda Thompson, Nancy Bird, and Ivy Pearce. The race started punctually at Brisbane. All competitors had to reach Sydney by 2.30 p.m. Passengers are accompanying 22 of the pilots. Well-known competitors include Messrs H. F. Broadbent, R. Godsall, A. Tweddle, H. Hughes, P. Knapman, P. McMahon, and C. Pratt.
