OVERSEAS CREDITS

TO THE EHITOB 0? THE PRESS. Sir, —On the question of oranges your leader writer says that there is no shortage of overseas credits. So far as I have gathered New Zealand's oversea credit is chiefly the London funds. New Zealand has no Australian credit balance. Australia has considerable New Zealand credit. This credit places New Zealand at a disadvantage. Also the importation of oranges would increase that disadvantage. If Australia were not all out for a unilateral trade with New Zealand, she could easily conduct a fairer trade. New Zealand potatoes could be imported into Australia without injuring the local market. The time has come for nations to make a stand for fair trade. It is to be hoped that New Zealand will maintain her present stand with Australia. Australian oranges are not essential to the welfare of New Zealand.—Yours, etc., KAYE HOE. November 28, 1936.

(c) Have these men been paid their wages in full or has the time they worked on the totalisator been deducted? fd) Is it just for clerks who are on full weekly pay to be allowed to grab casual clerical , work while capable clerks are eking out an existence on sustenance? I consider that it is the bounden duty of the Minister for Employment to take this matter up.—Yours, etc., , CLERK ON SUSTENANCE. November 28, 1936. IMr Ross would not comment on this letter.]
