OPAWA-ST. MARTINS The monthly'meeting of the OpawaSt. Martins sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held at Mrs Hansen s home. Mrs Newburgh presided oyer a good attendance. Members stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of the late Mr P. R. Harman, who had acted as honorary auditor to the branch since its inception eight years aS Mrs G. T. Lucas (honorary treasurer) and Mrs J. A. Tait, a past-president of the sub-branch, paid tributes to the invaluable help Mr Harman had given the committee. For Opawa, Nurse Osborn reported that she had visited four new and 11 old cases at their homes, and 81 adults, 82 babies, and six older children had been attended at the rooms. Nurse Bowron stated that 54 adults and 54 babies had visited the rooms at St. Martins. t Mrs Newburgh gave a report of the Dominion conference held recently in Christchurch. It was decided to send a donation towards the expenses of the nurses’ Christmas dinner at Karitane Hospital. NEW BRIGHTON SUB-BRANCH The monthly meeting of the New Brighton sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket rooms, Mrs W. Flavel presiding. The report of Nurse N. Garland, relieving Plunket nurse for October, gave the following statistics. Adults 118. babies 116, older children four; total. 238 cases. Visits to homes 12, new cases nine, premature cases two. The general health of both mothers and babies in the district was good. The secretary (Mrs F. W. Moore) re•ported that two New Brighton girls, Misses Doreen Shaw and Jean Florsnce, had finished their training at Karitane Hospital, and were now qualified to take cases. The Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith), who was present at the meeting, recommended that a special meeting of the committee and the advisory board should be held next to discuss ways and means of raising funds to put the local branch on a sound financial footing. Mr Smith said that the work of the committee and the Plunket nurse in the borough was much appreciated.
