FIRST COMPETITION FOR BROMLEY MEMORIAL BELT

The first competition for the Bromley Memorial Belt was fired off on the Cobden range by the Grey Defence Club on Saturday afternoon in good shooting conditions. Three first-year shots, Riflemen W.Millett,' F. Win, and ,T. Scorgie, jun., were top scorers with the possible, 105. Rifleman S. Davy shot well to register 98 oft the rifle. The conditions were 11 shots at 300 yards and 10 shots at .500 yards. The following were the leading scores at 300 yards, 500 yards, handicap, total: W. Millett 44, 47, 14, 105; F. Win 48, 40, 17, 105; J. Scorgie, jun., 43, 42, 20, 105; S Davy 50, 48. 2, 100; J. Rathbun 43, 36, 20, 99; M. Garth 42, 48, 6. 96; T. G. Garth 48, 40; 5. 93; J. Prendergast 43, 45, 2, 90; S. Sharman 45, 42, 3, 90; C. Richardson 39, 45, 4, 88.

WESTPORT PERSONALS

Mr A. Vercoe, of Nelson, is visiting Westport on business. Miss Edna Davis, of Christchurch, is visiting' Her parents at’Granity. Constable F. W. Mcßurney, of Lyttelton, has been transferred to the Denniston sub-district to replace Constable W. T. Spence, who has resigned from the force to start in business.

The Revs. N. S. Larsen (Westport) and F, Sanderson (Granity) and Mr R. Scarlett (Westport) left yesterday to attend the Methodist Synod at Greymouth.

Mr E. Gahagan, of Nelson, is visiting Westport.

The Rev. S. W. Webber (Westport) and Messrs E. S. Bush and J. Black (Granity) and A. H. Lennox < Dennis - ton) left yesterday to attend the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church at Christchurch.

Mr W. Craddock, secretary of the Buller Rugby Union, is in Wellington, to place before the New Zealand Union Bullcr’s claim to a match against the Springboks during their forthcoming tour. Mr J. F. Wilson, of Christchurch, whose death occurred last week at Riccarton, was very well known on the West Coast, where he was formerly on the teaching staffs of the Westport and Greymouth Schools. He took a keen interest in sport, particularly boxing and Rugby football.
