WEDDINGS

GRAY—MILLER

At St. John’s Church, ’La tin ?er sauare, the wedding was celebrated recently of Dorothy, third daughter of Mr and Mrs Miller (Linwood), to William, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Gray, of Waltham. The Rev. J. L McWilliam performed the ceremony. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, wore a frock of ivory satin, cut on classical lines, the cowled neckline being finished with a spray nf orange blossom. Her embroidered tulle veil was arranged from a coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a bouquet of lilies, carnations, and roses. A blue lace frock, softened with cowled folds at the neckline, was worn by Miss Hazel Miller, the bride’s sister, who attended as oridesmaid. Her halo head-dress was composed of blue forget-me-nots and pink roses to tone with her bouquet of roses, sweet peas and carnations. Mr R. Gray attended his brother as best man, A reception was held at the Savoy tea-rooms, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother. For travelling, the bride wore a suit of fawn and blue flecked tweed and a hat to match. She carried a black tailored coat. Mr and Mrs William Gray will make their home in Wellington.

GRIFFIN—GRIFFITHS

The wedding was celebrated recently, at the Rangiora Methodist Church, of Eric Harold, second son of Mr and Mrs W. Griffin (Ohoka), to Phyllis Mabel, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs D. Griffiths (Rangiora). The Rev. T. Coatsworth performed the ceremony, and Mr F. A. Lane was organist. . . The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of moss green crepe de chine, patterned in white, and a green straw hat relieved with white flowers. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies. ' . , u Mrs D. Messervy (Ashburton), who attended her sister as matron of honour, wore a frock of pink figured marocain and a brown straw hat. Her bouquet was of iilies-of-tho-vallcy. Mr Lyle Griffin, the bridegroom’s brother, was best man. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a horseshoe by Miss Nancy Cossar. At a . reception held in the Methodist schoolroom, the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a frock of maroon figured marocain and a wide-brimrned straw hat to tone. Her bouquet was composed of stocks. The bridegroom's mother wore a black frock and a hat to match, relieved with white trimmings. Her bouquet was of lily-of-the-valley. When Mr and Mrs E. H. Griffin left for their wedding tour, the bride was wearing a navy tailored suit, and a straw hat to tone.

SHUTTE—MACDONALD

LONDON, October 24,

A wedding of New Zealand interest look place at Cape Town on October 5. The bride was Mary Veronica, youngest daughter of the late W. C. Macdonald, of Salisbury, Rhodesia, and of Mrs F. J. Moore, of Burgess Hill. Sussex. She is the niece of Mr A. K. Scobie Mackenzie and Dr. W. Marshall Macdonald, of Wellington, and a great-niece of the late Sir Francis Dillon Bell. The marriage took place from the house of her sister, Mrs D. S. Blades. The bridegroom was Richard Cyril Neale, third son of the late Sydney R. Shutte, and of Mrs Shutte, of Kirkwood, Eastern Province, South Africa.

The future home of the young couple will be in South Africa. The bride’s mother is the well-known authoress, Sheila Macdonald.

GIFT PARTIES

Mrs T. Meadows was .hostess at a “kitchen” gift party, held at her home at Cashmere in honour of her niece, Miss J. Meadows. The guests brought many useful gifts for the kitchen of Miss Meadow’s future home, and the time passed pleasantly with games and competitions. Mrs B. H. Rlseley was also hostess at an enjoyable party, to honour Miss Meadows.

Mrs Sidney Wing and Miss Marjorie Camp were joint hostesses at a green kitchen evening party given in honour of Miss Alice Wing, whose marriage to Mr A. P. Truscott will take place this week. The evening was spent in dancing and games, and Miss Wing received many useful presents for her future home.

Mrs John Searle, assisted by her daughter, Miss Thelma Searle, was hostess at a “laundry” gift party in honour of Miss Ada Finer, whose marriage will take place shortly. An enjoyable time was spent-in games and competitions, the latter being won by Mesdames E. Finer, H. Cooper, B. Gemmell, Misses A. Finer, F. Searle, T. Searle. and Colleen Gemmell. A “kitchen” gift party organised by Mrs Fleming, was held at the home of Mrs E. A. Gray (“Contine,” Hororata). Mrs G. C. Derrett asked Mrs Gray to accept many gifts with best wishes from her many friends. During the afternoon competitions were won by Mrs E. A. Gray, Mrs Kellaway, and Mrs J. Thorne.

The Hon. P. Fraser, Minister for Education, officially declared open the new swimming baths at the Marlborough College, which were presented to the school by the Old Pupils’ Association. Music for dancing was supplied by Pat Kane’s orchestra, the winners of a Monte Carlo one-step being Miss Norma Collett and Mr Robert Taylor. Items were given by Mesdames Pugh, Reeve, Messrs T. E. West, A. Chappell, and R. Foster.
