Silvester, who has been transferred from the Public Works Department's Ashley river office, to Christchurch, was presented with a volume of Joim Masefield’s poems by the young "people of the Rangiora Methodist Church yesterday afternoon. On Thursday evening, Greta Garbo will be seen in Tolstoy’s dramatic masterpiece, “Anna Karenina.” Greta Garbo is supported by Fredric March and Freddie Bartholomew, in this brilliant production. On Saturday afternoon and evening, “Freckles,” Gene Stratton Porter’s delightful story of the Limberlost, will be shown with the new eight-year-old star. Virginia Weidler, in the lead. ' RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY RANGIORA SPORTS FIXTURES i' For the second week in succession, rain interfered with sports fixtures in Rangiora cfci Saturday afternoon. A heavy shower about 2 p.m. prevented the start of some matches, and those that were begun had to be abandoned when steady rain came on again at 4 o’clock. It continued heavily until •veil into the night, but conditions -'yesterday were bright and fine again. No matches in the North Canterbury Lawn Tennis Sub-Association’s competitions were sufficiently far advanced for a decision to be reached, r.nd the series of matches in each of the three grades set down for Saturday will be replayed next Saturday afternoon. Two-day matches in the North Canterbury Cricket Sub-Asso-ciation’s competitions have still one day’s play next Saturday. One-day matches in which play began were drawn, and others which were not started will be played next Saturday. Two matches for the Manning bowling pennant at Rangiora were unfinished because of the rain. Armistice Church Parade

More than 30 members of the Rangiora Returned Soldiers’ Association paraded to St. John’s Anglican .Church under Lieutenant-Colonel J. A. Mackenzie yesterday morning for the annual Armistice Day service. They assembled outside the club-room and marched along High street to the church, the Rangiora Brass Band, under Major W. Smith, heading the procession. The service was conducted by Archdeacon A. C. Purchas, whose address was appropriate to the anniversary. Blain). KOWAI BUSH The school children assembled at the Kowai Bush War Memorial on Armistice Day, and observed two minutes' silence. They placed a wreath at the foot of the memorial. Community Sing Mr J. Boughen (Christchurch) conducted a community sing in the hall on Friday evening. There was a very large attendance. Mr L. Buchanan thanked Mr Boughen for the splendid entertainment. Between songs items were given by Mrs Mclllhinney, Miss Robinson, Master Cecil White, and Mr Joughen. Mrs Robinson, Miss O. Stratford and Mr N. Smart played music for the dance which followed. As a result of the silver coin collection, the hall funds will benefit considerably.
