ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING
OFFICERS ELECTED FOR YEAR
At the annual meeting cf the South Canterbury Primary School Sports’ Association the following officers were elected:--President, Mr H. C. Remans: vice-presidents, Messrs A. C. Gibb, A. C. Barr, J. L. Bush, and Brother Marcellin; secretary, Mr . W. Pickard; associated secretary. Mr W. J. Burgess; committee. Misses Broadhursl, Ferguson, Sunaway, and Mcßean. Messrs J. Pennycook. D. Hepburn, F. R. Price, C. T. Moor and F. Malcolmaon. A sub-commit tee was set up to work with the South Canterbury Swimming Centre in regard to the ‘‘Learn to Swim Week. - ’ and a standing committee was appointed to encourage athletics.

VISIT TO TIMARU DURING WEEK-END An arrival at Timaru on Saturday morning \yas H.M.S. Wellington, which will remain in port till Wednesday evening. The vessel, a sloop, of 930 tons, is paying her first visit to Timaru. She is commanded by Commander J. B E. Hall, whose officers are:—Lieuten-arit-C»mmander C. B. Alers Hankey, Lieutenant M. E. Vinnell) called j ©n Commander Hall in the morning, \ the call being returned later. i The vessel was open for inspection on Saturday and again yesterday, when she was visited by large numbers of the public, HEAVY RAIN ALL GAMES POSTPONED IN TIMARU Heavy rain, which began to fall before 1 p.m. on Saturday -and com tinned for seme hours, caused the postponement of all games at Timaru.* Because of rain, the first games in the South Canterbury Cricket Association’s competition have not yet been finished. On the opening day rain shortened the hours of play, while on the second day unfavourable weather resulted in no play at all. Grade tennis matches have had to be postponed, while Bristol Cup bowling matches have suffered a similar fate. Another postponement was the annual sports of the Timaru Girls’ High School, which will now be held on the f.rst fine day this week. GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL EXHIBITION OF WORK AT TIMARU Although parents were disappointed *t the postponement of the annual sports of the Timaru Girls’ High School on Saturday, they found much to interest them in the display of work, which was considered to be the most comprehensive yet held. There was much to admire in the dressmaking and needle-work sections of the display, while the tapestry work also made >an excellent show. Of a totally different nature, the exhibits in the art room, comprising drawing, water coloured painting, and poster work, were excellent. Not the least interesting feature of the display was a practical demonstration of household economy in the cookery department, it being shown how to provide a week's meals for a family of two adults and three children for £1 4s 6d. BOWLS TIMARU CLUB BEATS CENTRE .A match played between the South Canterbury Bowling Centre and the Timaru Bowling Club resulted in a win for the club by 43 points to 33. UNEMPLOYMENT LOCAL BODIES TO CONFER The Mayor (Mr P. C. Vinnell) has agreed to the request of Mr Clyde Carr, M.P., to call a conference of local body representatives and officers of the Labour Bui’cau to consider the provision of work of a useful nature in conjunction with the Government’s unemployment scheme. w>lh the object of reducing the unemployment problem. The meeting will take place tomorrow evening. ,CROQUET FLAG MATCHES IN TIMARU In an A grade croquet match. West End A beat Timaru No. 2 by four g£ rnes to three. The B grade match between Timaru and Temuka was won by Timaru by five games to three. Geraldine beat Ashbury by seven games to nil in a B grade match.
