ENTRANCE CHARGES AT RICCARTON

TO THE EDITOR Of THB PRESS. Sir—As a visitor to the racecourses of Christchurch may I be allowed to make a comment. At Riccarton I have to pdy to enter the grounds and then not be where I can achieve a bet, I still have to pay a further amount before having access to the betting facilitielt Addington the one payment takes me inside to where I can invest my money. I feel sure the Canterbury Jockey Club would benefit by removing this outside extra charge. Riccarton Is further away than Addington, and therefore the journey costs more, and the public of Christchurch continue to pour money into the totalisator at Addington, some of which might easily be diverted to Riccarton. Many people enjoy a week’s sport and attend both gallops and trots, but all who have spoken to me resent the extra charge. My idea is to get the-crowd to the totalisator and they will spend. Thanks to a very able chairman and committee the Canterbury Jockey Club has achieved wonderful things the last few years, and I am so interested I would like to see the club continue to progress.—-Yours, etc., WIN AND PLACE. November 12. 1936.
