PROFITEERING ACT
“SATISFACTORY RESULTS ACHIEVED” Although there have been breaches of the Prevention of Profiteering Act, it has not b°en necessary to take court proceedings to remedy them. This was indicated by the Minister for lndrstr ; es and Commerce fthe Hon. D. G. Sullivan) in an interview yesterday. Mr Sullivan said that satisfactory resu'ts were being achieved by the act. «'hich was being administered in accordance with the, policy he had arranged in the House of Representatives when the legislation was introduced. He explained that when complaints were received, officers cf his department investigated them to see if they were justified. Where it was found that there were breaches of the act. |*ne Position was explained to the firms concerned, and in a number of cases they were forced not only to reduce their charges but to make refunds to people who had been overcharged. The act was working very smoothly, He considered, and there had beep no cases in which prosecutions were necessary because of the attitude of those against whom complaints had .
