GRBYMOUTH LAWN TENNIS SUB-ASSOCIATION
SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION
The sub-association in its first year had shown what could be done for tennis by concerted action on the part of the clubs, said the annual report of the president o'f the Greymouth Lawn Tennis Sub-Association, which was presented to the annual meeting of the sub-association on Tuesday night. Mr A. L. McKay was in the chair.
The balance-sheet showed the association to be in a very sound position financially, but efforts would have to be made to Increase the funds, as the ultimate aim of the sub-association was to own its own courts, the report continued. As the revenue of the association was only Id a member from affiliated clubs, it could easily be seen that some other methods would have to be used. The tournament had been most successful. The standard of tennis throughout the tournament had been particularly good. Although the season had been very late in starting they expected to have a very busy time ahead with the inauguration of the district ladder and matches.
The balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £5 8s 7d, and the annual report were adopted. On the chairman’s suggestion it was decided to set up a district ladder with 16 men and 16 women on it. Rules governing the ladder were approved. The following were chosen as ladder selectors:—Miss M. Costello, Messrs H. Dodson and A. Warnes, It was left to the management committee to appoint two delegates to the West Coast Lawn Tennis Association. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr A. L McKay; vice-presi-dents, Messrs A. Winstanley, R. Gilmour; secretary-treasurer, Mr H. Dodson: committee, Messrs T. Anisy, W. Murray, O. Cheyne, A.
