MAKING BRITONS HEALTHY

GOVERNMENT’S PLAN

MORE SPORTS FIELDS AND SWIMMING POOLS

LONDON, October 7,

The political correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says it is understood that the King’s first Speech from the Throne at the State opening of Parliament on November 3 will announce the Government’s plan for a nation-wide drive to make Britons fit and health conscious, in which the King is taking a personal interest.

» Schemes already under consideration include gymnasiums in every town in the country, additional swimming pools, more open spaces, and sports fields, and an intensive propaganda campaign to educate the nation to the necessity of a, higher standard % of physical fitness.

One of the first measures which will be designed will be for the welfare and physical care of children after leaving school.
