BIVOUACS FOR FOUR SQUADRONS

CANTERBURY YEOMANRY CAVALRY

Four bivouacs have been arranged fqr the squadrons of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry for the week-end ending on Labour Day, October 28. It is estimated that approximately 200 will attend altogether. The headquarters squadron will bivouac on Mr A. B. Turnbull’s property at Balcairn, where the squadron will trek by road. Extensive machinegun practice will be carried out by day and night during the bivouac. The site is considered an ideal one for the purpose. Captain G. W. Logan will be in command, with Lieutenants A. J. D. Morten and R. R. Livingstone. The A squadron, which is drawn from Banks Peninsula, Lincoln, Oxford, and North Canterbury, will hold a dismounted bivouac at the show grounds at Raiigiora. Lieutenant A. Mclntosh will be in command, and the troop leaders will be Second-Lieuten-ants T. D. Morten. J. A. McAlpine, and R. E. Meyer. A mounted bivouac will be held by the B squadron at the Ashburton racecourse, and all ranks will bring their horses. Major A. J. Nicoll will be in command, Captain G. Brown will be second in command, and Lieutenants p. Harper and G. G. Good will be troop leaders. This squadron is drawn from the Ashburton county.

The C squadron will carry out a dismounted syllabus at the Washdyke racecourse. Lieutenant R. C. Harper will be in command, and will have as troop leaders Lieutenants H. J. Talbot. J. C. Medlicott, and C. B. Kerr. This squadron is drawn from South Canterbury, from Fairlie to Waimate. Captain K. J. Walker said that the regiment was Indebted to Mr Turnbull, the North Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and the South Canterbury and Ashburton Racing Clubs for the use of the camping sites.
