CHAIN STORES ENQUIRY

EVIDENCE FOR DEALERS IN FOOTWEAR

(FSSS* AOSOCX4TZOM TBISOBAH.)

WELLINGTON, October 8. Evidence was given at the chain stores enquiry to-day by representatives of chain footwear stores and farmers’ co-operative associations. In testimony against the petition, it was stated for Hannah’s, that they were not concerned with the opposition to departmental stores, as toe company's shops, dealt in footwear •only and stocked large quantities of goods manufactured in New Zealand and that taxation that would force to* company’s shops out of business in favour of independent Shops would be detrimental to the interests of New Zealand manufacturers, tanners and others. The case for farmers' co-operative associations was put by J. H. Russell, general manager of the Fanners’ Go* operative Federation.
