(FBOK OUK. OWN COBIUSSPONDENT.)
LONDON, September 12. On September 9 the London branch of the old boys of Wellington College assembled at what proved to be one of the happiest informal gatherings that has been held by this branch. The dinner was arranged chiefly in honour of Sir Michael Myers, and another old boy now in London to be accorded a hearty welcome was Mr Leonard Blundell. * Mr S. Jacobs presided. Others present included Major J. Findlay, Major W. Ivory, Mr W. L. Mr Oscar Borer, Mr John Cell Mr F. W. Haybittle, Mr G. T. Aldous, Mr J. A. Nathan, Mr Maurice J. Nathan, Mr A. Nathan, Dn H. Hoby, Dr. L. Mandel, Dr. Cecil Donne' Dr. Marshall Day, and the Rev. R. K. Young (honorary secreYoung recalled that Mr J. P. Firth, known to all as “The Boss, saying on several occasions on the stage in the “Big School”: “Remember, wherever you are, y°“ presentatives of your school. When the cadets were about to march off to act as guard of honour at the opening of Parliament, or a football or cricket team was about to leave to play in a. tournament, this was nearly always his dictum. This esprit de corps could not be described in words: It just existed. Not only did it exist among boys present at the school, but it lasted all through life among all old boys of Wellington College who regarded their school in the proper light. Mr Young spoke of the many old boys living in England. Any gathering of old boys here was regarded as something not to be missed. There were 40-odd names on the English list, and the average attendance at dinners was somewhere about 20. Among those unable to be present were some in the Royal Air Force and others domiciled too far away from London. The chairman proposed the two toasts, “The King” and “Our Guest.” In his reply. Sir Michael Myers spoke of the school as it was in his day and as it is to-day. Old boys visiting England will always be welcome at any gathering. Ag soon as they arrive they should notify the secretary, the Rev. R. K. Young, 48 Ferndale road, Enfield Lock, Middlesex.
