ARRIVAL IN CITY
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DELEGATES
LARGE PROGRAMME ARRANGED
Nearly 100 delegates to the congress of Empire Chambers of Commerce, which has just concluded at Wellington. will arrive in Christchurch this morning. Among them will be the president of the congress, Lord Elibank, and the party will include many distinguished industrial and commercial men. Two days will be spent in Christchurch, where the entertainment committee of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce has arranged a comprehensive programme of visits and gatherings. There will be a morning tea at Ballantynes at 10.30, and at noon the visitors will be accorded a v vie leccption at the City Council Chambers. In the afternoon motor drives have been arranged. "p ■-3 are to New Brighton, Sumner, the Sign of the Takahe, Canterumy l w gt>, Fendalton, and St. Albans, or to Amberley and back. The Botanic Gardens will be open for cars with visitors. ' , ~ . A garden party will also be held at the home of Mr Norton Francis, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand. There will be a picture party in the evening at tae Regent Theatre, followed by supper. To-morrow, one of, the main features in the programme will be visits to s x representative factories in the city, beginning at 9.30 a.m. There will be golh at Slrrley for those who wish it. There will be two trips lasting all day, one to Akaroa by way of Lyttelton, and the other to Ashburton county, where a visit will be paid to the model farm at Longbeach. A party will also visit the estate of Sir R. Heaton Rhodes at Otahuna. A smoke concert for delegates at the Caledonian Hall, and a guest evening for women visitors at the Women’s Club, will conclude the Christchurch programme to-morrow evening. A comprehensive tour has been arranged by the Government Tourist Department for the visitors after they leave Christchurch. Some of the delegates will visit the West Coast and the glaciers, others will visit Hanmer and rejoin the oiher party later on a visit to Dunedin and Timaru. Some of the party will go further south.
