BLENHEIM NEWS
There was a large attendance of members and friends at the opening of the Blenheim Bowling Club’s season. Mr R. J. Cresswell (president) welcomed the players and visitors, and Mrs P. C. Cresswell, mother of the {(resident, played the first bowl, and the green was declared opened. Amongst those present were Mesdames E. J. Harvey, S- T. Evatt, F. T. Bull. P. C. Cresswell, A. E. Henderson, J. J. McLeod, T. Mitchell, E. J. Brammall, T. S. Couch, W. Mackintosh. Hislop, A. Nicholas, A. A. Edwards, J. Reid, M McKenzie, Livingstone. M. Wanden, A. Gavin, Kenner, T. B. Hay. and T. G. Fitzell. Mrs T. S. Maskew entertained several Maids at an enjoyable bridge party. Bridge was played in the draw-ing-room, which was decorated with, bowls Of bulbs, freesias, and Iceland poppies
Those present were Mrs W. K. Gill, Mrs W. de Castro. Mrs G. M. Spence, Mrs Vesey Robinson, and Mrs W. T. Churchward, Misses M. Mac Nab and I Horton.
Mrs T. Watts (The Delta) ha? returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs W. R. Mackintosh is Visiting Oamaru.
Mrs S. T. Critchley is visiting Wellington.
Miss V. Farmer has returned from a visit io Wellington. Miss Bulien (Kaikoura) ftp visiting Blenheim.
card Social
A card social was held in the Parish Hall at Prebbleton in aid of the funds of All Saints’ Church. Prizes were won by Mrs J. Dick and Mr W. Dick (Halswell), Miss £. Adlerson, and Mr T. Harding. Consolation prize winners were Mrs E. Walker and Mr landMembers of the women’s social committee served supper. ‘ Those present incmded Mesdames H. B. Jones, W. Downey, S. Greenslade, E. Walker, G. FANCY DRESS BALL
The annual fancy dress ball to assist St James’s Anglican Church, Southbrldge, was held to the Southbrldge Town Rail, and was an outstanding success, the attendance exceeding that oi last year. For the first two hours the children had. the use of the dance floor, a large number appearing In fancy dress. Music for the children’s .dancing was Supplied by Miss M. Nidd, and Mr Fred. Smith’s orchestra supplied music for the adults. Mr O'. Stratton was master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs S. J. Simpson and Mr J. Newlove. The Mother’s Union, With Mrs H. J. Greenwood In charge, provided supper, and file joint secretaries were Misses R. Greenwood and C. carter. Mrs E. L. Inwood and Mr A. G. Barker, Who acted as Judges, awarded prizes as follows: Children—Nanette Montgomery. Lois Carter. Jean Hannah, Betty farmer, Annabel Fisher, M. Pilkington, Dick Carr, Bob Montgomery, Bruce Hill, Alan Hampton, and Colin Doyle. ■ Adults—Miss D. Hickman, Miss E, Greenwood. Miss H. Carter, Mr K. Beamsley, Miss R. Howson, Messrs M. Sheehan and R. Armstrong. The Mothers’ Union prize was won by Mrs H. J. Greenwood.
