The Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister for Industries and Commerce, who spent yesterday hearing deputations in the city, left for Wellington last night.

Mr Noel Laver was elected a member of the Christchurch Business Men’s Club at a luncheon yesterday.

Mr E. S. Brittenden, district traffic manager of railways, is on a visit to the West Coast. Mr R. McGillivray, Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture at Christchurch, who is at present on a business visit to South Canterbury, expects to return to Christchurch to-morrow.

Dr. Owen L. Eaton, son of the Rev. Clarence Eaton, left Christchurch yesterday by air for Wellington on the first stage of his journey to China to take up medical missionary work on the Canton Presbyterian Mission. The following members of Parliament left for Wellington last evening: Dr. David McMillan, Messi-s Peter Neilson, H. S. S, Kyle, E. J. Howard, C. Morgan Williams, C, L. Carr, and A. H. Nordmeyer.

The Rev. J. K, Archer left for the north last evening to attend the annual Baptist conference at Auckland.

The Wellington Hospital Board, at a special meeting yesterday, accepted the resignation of Dr. G. H. Robertson, who recently was appointed assistant superintendent (medical). The board unanimously resolved to appoint Dr. J. Cairney, of Lower Hutt, to the position, subject to the approval of the Minister for Health. —Press Association.

Mr W. D. Borrie, 8.A., has been elected Ross Fellow of Knox College, Dunedin. Mr Borrie intends to occupy the period of the fellowship with research into New Zealand’s immigration problem.

Mr W. G. V. Fernie, general manager of the Calder Mackay Company, will leave to-day for the south by aeroplane on a business trip. Mr Walter Blundell, general manager of the Evening Post,” Wellington, will leave by the Awatea next week for a holiday in Australia. Mr lan Bowater, a director of the British newsprint firm of W. V. Bowater and Sons, will leave Wellington to-night on a visit to Christchurch.-

Mr Robert McLaren, principal of the Greymouth Technical College, has tendered his resignation to the college board after 49 years’ service as a teacher.—Press Association.

Captain F. Pond, instructor to the Canterbury University College gymnastic club, received a small presentation at the college last evening.* He was congratulated by students of the club upon his appointment to a full-time position at Christ’s College.

Mr C. F. Jones, LL.B., A.R.A. (N.Z.), of the Farm Accounting Association of New Zealand, Dunedin, who has been stationed in Christchurch for the last two months, has been transferred to the local managership at Oamaru. Mr Jones was for some years on the staff of Wilding and Acland, solicitors, Christchurch, being admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court Mr and Mrs Jones left Christchurch for Oamaru last week. Mr M. V, Blake, who is shortly to leave for the Royal Air Force, England, received a small farewell presentation from fellow-members of the Canterbury University College gymnastic club last evening. Appreciation was expressed of his many services to # the club as its captain. "A motion of sympathy for Mr G. A. K. Simmers, Railway Department engineer, on the death of his father, was passed at a meeting of the Canterbury College Engineering Society last evening. Members stood in sUence.
