ALTERNATE BEARING APPLE TREES

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—ln this dry part of North Canterbury, in .most orchards, there are large numbers of apple trees which are alternate bearers. This is caused through frosts, and for some seasons past the very dry weather We have had. . " , u . The most certain cure for this trouble and loss is to pinch or cut off a large number of the blossoms and yoving fruits from those trees having too many blooms for a crop. When cutting off the blooms or young fruits the whole of the young fruits or flowers should be cut off without injury to the bud. This will -give the buds treated a chahce to fruit the next season, and in two or three seasons' bring the trees back. to regular beaming again. It wjll also allow the trees -to 1 produce larger,-fruits and cut out the rubbish that is at present put on the market,—Youraf,'etc*, , ~
